We are thrilled to announce the third session of our art lecture series led by curator and VN Resident Olena Iegorova. This time, we'll explore the fascinating intersection of art and internet culture and engage with another controversial topic in the art world and beyond: Memes as a Form of Art Criticism.
Let's start with some facts. According to recent studies, the average millennial looks at 20-30 memes each day. Instagram is flooded with memes, with over 1 million of them being shared every day. Being relatable and concise in form, meme marketing campaigns increase click-through rate to 19%, compared to the 6% of basic ones, which is actively used by many companies.
As an evolving environment, internet produces new forms of information transfer constantly, and memes have gained its niche and took over the space immediately. Meme as a love language, meme as a modern age cultural token, meme as a form of political activism, and we finally arrive at the time when meme is a part of the art world discourse.
